Fibrous Dysplasia

What are the causes and symptoms of the very rare bone disorder Fibrous Dysplasia?

1 comment:

  1. Fibrous dysplasia is thought to be caused by a gene mutation that is not inherited from a person's parents. The mutation interferes with the osteoblasts' ability to build bone, so resorption of bone by the osteoclasts outpaces rebuilding of bone by the osteoblasts. Bone is the filled in with fibrous (scar) tissue instead, resulting in possible bone deformity and a higher susceptibility to fracture in some cases.
